Why Warm Water Exercise?

                                                                  • Recovering from an injury or surgery ?                                                                                                                                • Arthritic, dysplastic, or just slowing down from old age ?
                                                                  • Trying to lose puppy fat or need to learn how to swim?
                                                                  • Bouncing off the walls from lack of exercise ?                                                                                                                       ……Or just a best friend who deserves a special treat ?

Warm water with the safety and comfort that it provides leads to an emotional peacefulness and sense of well being for all involved. The feeling of weightlessness allows the use of all muscles without putting stress on damaged or weak ones, while improving muscle tone and promoting tissue repair without imposing undue stress.  Hydrotherapy has long been recognized as beneficial for human conditioning and rehabilitation. The same benefits are as effective for canines, whether they are young, old, in competition, dogs that are in need of rehabilitation or just need a safe form of exercise.

Most dogs will cope quite happily with swimming as a form of exercise for rehabilitation.  We would prefer to consult with your veterinarian before your first session if your canine is old, unfit, recovering from an injury or surgery. We will then design a specific swim program to best suit their needs.

One on One Swim

With our One on One Exercise Session, someone with a Level II certification will remain in the pool with your companion the entire time.  Other modalities of bodywork are combined while in the water with your canine.

It is common to spend some time adjusting and becoming comfortable with the pool and their new surroundings.   We develop a session specifically for your canine that incorporates swimming, floating and your canine friend will be allotted “Recess” time to enjoy fetching their favourite toy throughout the session.
Buddy Swim

Buddy Swim is a fun interactive session where your canine can invite two or three friends
for a doggy pool party!  A fun time for everyone filled with fetching and aquatic swimming for dogs.

◦The natural buoyancy of the water and the fact that sudden twists,                                           stops and falls are impossible makes hydrotherapy a safe and                                                 effective form of exercise while being very enjoyable for everyone!

Parent Swim

After your canine's safe introduction to the pool during his first session with a WaterWorkz handler, you may then choose to come and join your dog for our Parent Swim.  You, your companion and your host will all get in the water and give you a short introduction to the pool and how your canine likes to be handled.  You may then begin sharing the warm water with your canine companion.  You can choose to turn on the jets to play catch for exercise or just enjoy a quiet, peaceful hour while you relax and take in the warmth of the water and calm surroundings.

◦Relaxation is essential for everyone.  Your time spent in the water with your dog will                be a great bonding experience for you both.

Learn to Swim

Safety for your canine friend is important.  Our dog swimming lessons teach your friend how to react and behave in our Lower Mainland surroundings and ensures everyone will enjoy the benefits of our beautiful landscapes.  Dogs love to swim naturally.  We teach them how to enjoy the experience of learning to swim in a safe and controlled enviroment!

◦The resistance of the water means that a five-minute workout may be equivalent to                running five miles.  As a form of exercise it helps to improve general fitness and                      cardiovascular stamina, muscle tone and managing obesity. This makes it an obvious            choice as a regular form of exercise.

1. Two canines that share their swim time, one canine at a time in the pool with a WaterWorkz handler.

 2. Two large or three small canines per session sharing the pool and the session time.  Your WaterWorkz water handler counts as one human and there must be one human per dog in the water.  This provides us with a safe, controlled and happy way for everyone to have fun!
